Arterial
wind harps, wood, chiffon fabric, glazed ceramics, steel
8 × 12 × 4 ft
commissioned by the Goldwell Museum of Art Beatty, Nevada
collaboration with Tiffany Lin

Arterial is a sculpture that honors the desert landscape as a transitory and transformative space. Borrowing from the language of public transit and the idea of “arterial” as a Main Street, the bright red bus shelter invites travelers to take shelter from the sun. The roof of the shelter contains three harps that capture the ebb and flow of the wind through ghostly sounds. Utilizing the air currents of Amargosa Vallery, Arterial invites viewers to pause and listen to the voice of the landscape.

Migrate
wind harps, chiffon, plasma-cut and painted steel, wood
approx. 6 × 20 × 30 ft
commissioned by Clark County Wetlands Park
Las Vegas, Nevada
collaboration with Tiffany Lin

Migrate is an outdoor installation and sound work that combines human and animal ways of navigating this world. Ascending and descending feather tips are emerging from the leaf litter in the cottonwood grove. They are leading toward the four plasma-cut sculptures at the center that point toward the cardinal directions North, East, West, and South.

The plasma-cut steel panels have human height and tell stories of animals surviving the desert, navigating Earth, and current threats to migratory routes. Similar to a desert flower, the red installation emerges from the muted color palette of the park, underscoring the beauty of migration, movement, and change. Passersby are invited to sit inside the installation and listen carefully to the winds passing through the environment as they activate three wind harps installed atop the sculptures of the cardinal directions.
